Year 2 Writing and Reading Parent Workshop
On 24th January 2019 Year 2 held a Writing and Reading workshop for parents.
The workshop focused on the key areas of writing and reading that Year 2 children needed to know by the end of the year and that parents could support them with.
For writing the workshop covered checking writing made sense, using different punctuation (including question and exclamation marks) correctly, using phonics to sound out spellings and the importance of writing cursively.
For reading the workshop covered the two levels: decoding and comprehension, talking about how important it was for the children to comprehend what they had read in different ways.
These areas were also linked to the Year 2 SATs with practice questions and examples given to show parents what they can expect from the test papers. This information was given to help parents support their children at home.
The slides from the workshop are attached and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact your Year 2 teacher.
