At Guru Nanak Sikh Primary School we believe that Physical Education and School Sport is very important for the emotional and physical health of our children. Physical Education promotes an understanding in children of how to manage their bodies within a variety of movement situations. It involves thinking, selecting and applying skills and promotes positive attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle. In turn it further develops the children’s knowledge, skills and understanding, enabling them to perform with increasing competence and confidence in a range of physical activities.
Our Curriculum is based around the Real PE Program which focuses on challenging EVERY pupil through their Personal, Social, Creative, Health & Fitness, Cognitive & Physical abilities.
Pupils will be taught from Reception to Year 6 and are assessed at the beginning and the end of their block of work. Each half term focuses on a different multi ability.
Through the curriculum, pupils will learn:
- To work with others, respect and praise each other.
- Learn how to compete with self (setting Personal Best) and others.
- Learn to challenge themselves and learn about healthy competition.
- Improve their physical fitness.
- Develop Agility, Balance and Co-ordination.
Pupils will also get the opportunity to take part in Extra Curricular Clubs at lunchtime and after school.
We aim to enter a range of sports competitions to allow pupils to compete against other schools.
Year 4 pupils will attend Swimming in addition to their PE time during the week.
